Currant rolls

I live in a west Indian neighborhood in Brooklyn and the food is amazing. Jerk chicken, red snapper, bakes, roti – everything is delicious. I've been to a few bakeries that serve tamarind rolls, bread pudding, casava cake and so on, but my favorite is the currant rolls. They are thick flakey pastries filled with twists of dough intermingling with currants that taste more like the raisins I'm used to rather than bitter currants I've had in the past. My favorite place to get them are at the bakery next to my apartment. Convenient and delicious. Who could ask for anything more? One of the women who works there is my girl. She and I chat all the time and she is very sweet and friendly. If you are ever in Crown Heights, I'm telling you: check out the currant rolls from Baker's Delight on Nostrand Avenue. You will not be disappointed.
